How soon after cataract surgery can I wear eye makeup?

Makeup free to avoid smudging and ensure that the testing results are as accurate as possible while attending your initial consultation with the laser eye surgery.

These may be worn for consultation if you wear individual fake lash extensions but must be taken away one week before someone’s laser eye surgery and must not be re-applied until 8 weeks after surgery.

Fake strip lashes should be added four weeks after surgery, but we do not wear any consultations.

We warn you not to wear perfume, because it can interfere with the laser energy supplied to the eye and affect the outcome of the laser eye activity.

Your eye would be cleaned properly before surgery; however, it is recommended that you avoid wearing a makeup on the day of your surgery.

After surgery, you must avoid wearing eye makeup for as long as possible, but after the surgery you must wait at least a week.

That is because small fragments, fibers, or liquids from the eye makeup can come into contact with your eye and can increase the chance of getting an infection.

Wearing eye makeup raises the risk of your eyes becoming irritated, and can also affect your eye recovery.

Also, it’s recommended that you wait a day or two before you wear eye makeup after cataract surgery like the foundation and lipstick. This is safe to stop powder based foods such as bronzers or blushers for 4-5 days.

We recommend you should not use eye creams after surgery for around 2 weeks, and all other cosmetics that are spread next to the eyes should be carefully applied.

When you start wearing makeup after cataract surgery, we recommend you buy fresh cosmetics and brushes, or wash your brushes thoroughly. Bacteria can cling to your used products and may cause your eyes to become infected.
